Eavestrough Re-slope & Downspout Extension — St. Catharines

Re-pitched existing eavestroughs that were pooling water and breeding mosquitoes, sealed all leaking joints, and extended downspouts 6 ft from foundation.

Retained project example — confirmation pending

Standing water was visible in the front eavestrough after every rain, lasting for days. The homeowner had also noticed the paint on the fascia peeling below the pooling section.

Eavestroughs were installed with zero slope — likely settled over time. Three joints had separated and were leaking behind the fascia. Front left corner downspout discharged directly onto the splash block 2 inches from the wall.

Scope considerations

Eavestroughs installed with no pitch are very common — they look fine from the ground but collect debris and standing water that deteriorates the trough from inside. Re-hanging takes a few hours and dramatically extends the life of an otherwise sound system. The original troughs were only six years old; re-sloping cost a fraction of replacement and will easily see them to 20+ years.

  • Re-hung existing 5″ aluminum eavestroughs with correct 1:500 slope
  • Replaced three leaking slip-joint connectors with sealed unions
  • New 2×3 downspout at front left corner (existing was undersized)
  • 2 × 4-ft splash block extensions with flexible corrugated pipe
